Accentuate the Positive

Lori-Ann Thompson

You Are Enough

I was listening to an episode of the Black Girl in Om podcast recently, and I heard a quote from Tatianna Tarot , intuitive tarot therapist and spiritual wellness practitioner that made me pause: “Worry is a prayer for things you don’t want.”

Think about that!

Our thoughts create our reality. When we worry, all we’re doing is focusing on what we DON’T want – adding fuel to it, holding the image of it in our minds, speaking it; and therefore, bringing it into existence. We’ve all heard “you are what you eat,” but I like to adjust that to more accurately state “you are what you THINK.” As the quote by Henry Ford states, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can't--you're right.”

You are in control of your mindset. You have the power to manifest whatever you want into your life! The problem is, we spend so much time focused on the negative, the unwanted, the scary, that those are the things we bring forth. The power of intention is magnificent! Coincidentally, that’s the title of a book by one of my favorite people, Dr. Wayne Dyer. As the synopsis states, “Dr. Wayne W. Dyer brings to us the idea that intention is a force in the universe that allows the act of creation to take place.” In order words, you bring about what you think about. So why not – accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative, latch on to the affirmative. Don’t mess with Mr. In-Between. Come through Paul McCartney! :D

Now, if you follow me on social media, or have joined me on Periscope, you know that I am a firm believer that mental health is part of our self-care. Sometimes we need to work with a mental health professional to help address and resolve issues and illnesses. And if not resolve, then at least learn ways to cope while living a healthy, balanced life. I know this concept is taboo within certain demographics (i.e. among black and brown folk); however, thoughts are shifting as our current generation is seeing that those long-held beliefs have not served our communities. We can pray about it, but ultimately, the resources have already been made available to us. Talk to someone. Seek a professional. Get the support you need.

January is a perfect time to get in tune with our thoughts and our bodies. How are you seeking to manifest/increase alignment between your thoughts, your mental health, and your physical reality? The increasing turbulence of our world requires that we create the harmony we pursue. Wellness comes from within. <3
